Q.
Why should I invest money in regular grooming for my pet?
A. Regular grooming offers many
benefits
*A regular physical
examine for many health concerns (lumps, skin irritations, ear
infections, teeth issues, etc)
Occasionally we have spotted issues that have been missed at
recent vet visits
*Reduce shedding
*Improve coat luster and skin health
*Maintain ear health and avoid costly ear infections
*Avoid painful and expensive impacted anal sacs
*Reduce general doggie odor
*Eliminate foot pain and structural foot damage due to overgrown nails
*Keep your pet looking its best!
Q. How can I make the my pets visit less stressful and less expensive?
A. There are several steps you can take
Firstly, it is VERY important to get your
pet use to being handled
You
can accomplish this by handling your pet in a low stress setting. If your pet is already a
bit touchy positive rewards such as treats can help your dog
associate handling with enjoyable experiences.
The
second most important thing to do is brush AND COMB your pet.
Not only does this
eliminate dematting fees it
will make the groom shorter and less stressful.
It is important to comb your pet in addition to
brushing because combs can catch deep tangles that a brush may glide
over. You should always be able to get a comb
through your dog's coat down to the skin. If you can not keep up with the brushing at home
we offer quick 5-15 minute brushout sessions to keep your dog in shape
between
grooms.
Other recommendations
*Exercise your dog
before your appointment. An exercised dog is a happy, tired
and less stressed dog
*Don't
worry! Most dogs are perceptive enough to pick up what their
owners are feeling. If you are worried that fluffy will be
nervous, you may be adding to her anxiety
Q. How much does it cost to get my dog groomed?
A. Prices vary depending on:
Breed
Size of your pet
What type of haircut you want (if any)
Condition of your pet's coat
Q. How often should I get my dog groomed?
A.
Regular grooming for most dogs is between 4-8 weeks
This
varies by breed and length of coat. Some dogs may go longer
if grooming is well maintained at home.
Q. Do I need an appointment to get my dog groomed?
A. Yes
We
usually book 2 - 6 days in advance. Availability will vary
depending on the day of the week (weekends are busier) and holidays
(Thanksgiving and Christmas are VERY busy). We offer prebooking
and standing appointments upon request.
Nail trims do not require an appointment.
Q. My dog's nails are over grown and/or I'm afraid to cut them myself.
What do I do?
A. Bring your dog in to Posh Paws and we can
help
Full service brush & baths and grooms always
include a nail trim. We also offer a nail trim as a walk in service for
only $8. If your dog's nails are very overgrown several
visits a
few weeks apart maybe necessary to reduce the length of the blood
vessels in the nails. We are also happy to show you how to
cut the nails if you are interested in doing it yourself.
Q. I saw a commercial for a product called "Pedipaws". Does it
work?
A. Yes, but it might not for right your dog
Pedipaws is basically a grinder or Dremmel with a guard
on the end. Grinders only work well for dogs that do not mind having their
feet touched. Most likely, if the dog will not let you clip the
nails easily, it wont let you use the Pedipaws product.
However, if your dog is good for its feet, Pedipaws is a useful tool
to smooth the nail and reduce the chance of nails bleeding from
clipping. Our shop will use nail grinders on your pet upon request, although we do not use the Pedipaws tool specifically.
